J. Cole’s Dreamville Records Signs Deal with Interscope

This is good news. The label members can get some more exposure from this. Omen is dope and Bas is cool, so let’s see what they’ll do next. J. Cole tweeted about the deal, saying,

“A gift for you from Dreamville. Celebration. Thank you for the Birthday love. Much Love to Interscope.”

J. Cole’s Top 5 Songs

Image

J.Cole’s one of the best rappers out of the new school. He’s got some great songs in his resume, and here are my top 5:

Before I’m Gone                                                                                                                                                                                               The song that made me a J.Cole fan. The singing and the bells in the intro of the song sets the vibe, then Cole delivers with the lyrics. He really pours his heart out to the mic on this one. The struggles going on in inner-city life, such as people being murdered and selling crack to keep a roof over your head. Reminds me of Tupac.

Return of Simba                                                                                                                                                                                                               This dropped a few months before Cole really blew up, but when I heard it, I knew it was guaranteed to happen. This is the hungriest I’ve ever heard him rap. The intensity he brought to this was him saying it’s his time to become a star. With the Lion King sample in the track, this beat was crazy too. “Ay Cole keep a thick bitch I like to call Big Shirley.”

Lights Please                                                                                                                                                                                                            The song that got Jay Z to sign him to Roc Nation. He talks about a girl he messes with. He wants it to be about more than just sex, but that’s all she wants. How pussy can be blinding, and cloud your thoughts.

Lost Ones                                                                                                                                                                                                                  What I love about this song is that there are tons of people in my generation that can relate to it. It’s a conversation between two young, soon-to-be parents, and Cole provides narration in the last verse. The guy wants his girl to get an abortion, while the girl says “Fuck that! I’m raising this kid with or without you!” Very powerful song.

2Face                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    My all-time favorite J.Cole track. The Friday Night Lights mixtape as a whole had alot of emotion in the verses, and on here, J.Cole sounded legitly pained. Like he was really dealing with the stress that he was talking about in the song. He talks about his past regrets, questions God about all the pain brought into the world, and his need to make it in the music industry.
