Top 5 Best TDE/Black Hippy Collabs

The hottest crew in hip-hop right now. Jay Rock used to be the leader in their early days, then Kendrick made his way to the forefront of not only the group, but today’s hip-hop as a whole. ScHoolboy ended up being the second breakout star, with successful singles and his Billboard-topping album Oxymoron. The four of them work well individually, and arguably even better when they collaborate. Here’s the top 5 best Black Hippy collabs:

5.) Illuminate (Ab-Soul ft. Kendrick Lamar)

The GTA 5 featured song that originally appeared on Soulo’s Control System album. The two best lyricists in the crew get to flex lyrically on this joint. Ab-Soul states that as a rapper, he can head to head with his influences like Jay Z, Pac, & Biggie. Accompanied by an epic beat, this is one of Ab-Soul’s best songs.

4.) Druggy’s wit Hoes Again (ScHoolboy Q ft. Ab-Soul)

Whenever these two link up, it’s right to expect something dope. They’re my personal favorite duo combination out of Black Hippy due to their chemistry. This song is so damn fun and upbeat, with a back-and-forth hook between the two of them, clever wordplay in both of their verses, and a part towards the end of the song that had me saying EXTRA PILLS the whole damn day after first hearing it.

3.) Money Trees (Kendrick Lamar ft. Jay Rock)

A stand-out from Good Kid, m.a.a.d. City. Kendrick provides two mellow verses about street life and committing crimes with his friends, and a very catchy and well-written hook. Then Jay Rock hops on here and gives one of the best feature verses to have dropped so far this decade, with a dream of one day “being shaded under a money tree.” Am I the only person that gets more excited for a Jay Rock feature verse than a Jay Rock song? Probably not. This nigga’s features go hard.

2.) Blessed (ScHoolboy Q ft. Kendrick Lamar)

This is Q’s best song. He puts so much passion and emotion into his verses. He talks about formerly being homeless, his stresses, and his friend losing his son. Kendrick’s verses were technically sound with a cool flow, but Q definitely stole the show with his. Deep topics from both he and Kendrick, with the overall message of the song being that we are all blessed, despite the troubles that go on in our day-to-days.

1.) Black Lip Bastard (Remix) (Ab-Soul ft. Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock)

A track that features all four members of the Black Hippy regime, with memorable verses from each of them. The overall vibe of the song is kinda dark, gritty, braggadocios, and in-your-face. They all sound hungry on here, and once again, Jay Rock closed out the track and murdered it. “I’m the silent assassin of the four-headed dragon. Black Hippy blasting a .50 out the back of the Benz Wagon.”
