XXL Magazine’s annual freshmen list has featured some artists that have gone on to be rap superstars (Kendrick, J.Cole, Kid Cudi, ScHoolboy Q, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean etc.). Some, on the other hand, fell off the face of the earth. I honestly didn’t even remember some of these dudes ’til I looked them up. Let’s give some attention to the ones that receive no attention.
2008:
Rich Boy
Remember ‘Throw some D’s on that bitch!’? Shit was hot. Remember anything else Rich Boy ever put out? Me neither.
Gorilla Zoe
He mattered in like 2009. Not anymore though.
2009:
Charles Hamilton
He’s put out 104 mixtapes man. He still does stuff, but NOBODY pays attention to it.
Mickey Factz
Didn’t Jazz from Fresh Prince used to wear glasses like that? I heard Mickey in this freestyle with Cory Gunz once (who I’m debated on whether or not if he should also be on this list). He had some nice bars on it.
2010:
Pill
He ain’t half bad. I thought he’d make some kinda impact after he signed to MMG. Then he left the label and I haven’t heard him since.
OJ Da Juiceman
He was once Gucci’s partner in crime, then Waka came up and this dude faded into the dark depths of irrelevance. You ever heard his XXL Freestyle? It’s so damn funny.
Fashawn
Who?
Donnis
I have no idea who he is, so there’s nothing I can really say about him.
2011:
Fred the Godson
Did anybody honestly think he was gonna blow up anyway? This nigga is awful.
2012:
Don Trip
He had some buzz around him at a time. That ‘Letter to my Son’ song was cool. He just never popped.
